The Nelson and Tasman regions offer so much...
Fraser Highlands is centrally located in this fabulous region at the top of New Zealand's South Island. Nelson has consistently won the 'sunshine capital of New Zealand' and the wider Tasman area also benefits from this warmer climate.
With its wide spread golden beaches, proximity to National Parks, walking tracks, trout filled rivers, kayaking, local arts and crafts, world class wineries and eateries, there's something for everyone in the Tasman and Nelson region.
Located in Riwaka, Fraser Highlands is approximately 50 minutes drive from Nelson airport and only 10 minutes drive from New Zealand's most visited National Park, The Abel Tasman. With easily accessible coastal tracks and golden beaches surrounded by native New Zealand bush, its easy to see why the Abel Tasman is so popular with foreign and local visitors alike.
Within 40 minutes drive The Kahurangi National Park offers challenging day and multi-day hikes with equally beautiful mountainous scenery. Climb Mount Arthur in a day, picnic at the peak and experience stunning 360 degree views across the Nelson and Tasman wonderland. The Kaiteriteri Mountain Bike Park is a relatively new attraction in the area but already proving popular with local and national bikers. Access to the top of the park is only 5 minutes ride away and a great warm up for many challenging downhill runs!
Of course its not all about exercise...relax at Kaiteriteri and Marahau beaches or enjoy a scenic drive over Takaka Hill (Lord of Rings country) on your way to the Golden Bays. Stop at local café for lunch, visit an art gallery or sample award winning wine from some of New Zealand's best vineyards.
If you love water activities, sea kayaking, boating and sailing are all readily accessible or if you prefer a spot of fly fishing, both the Riwaka and Motueka rivers are ideal spots to catch that elusive trout and within 10 minutes drive.
Take a scenic flight or helicopter ride over the Tasman National Parks and Golden Bay from Motueka Airport or for those wanting an adrenalin rush, skydive from 16,500 ft, hang glide, white-water raft or canoe the Buller river....the list goes on!
